I have somehow misplaced my earbuds for my iPod, and my podcasts are backin up somethin' fierce! I have looked every where I know to look, and then some. I really don't want to buy new ones -- I've only had these for a few months! I overused the other ones and they died. haha

I was wondering. Do you have a particular magical method of finding lost objects?

I usually just go into light trance and see where I'm led. Not that I've been keeping track of success rates, but that's what I do when I'm looking for something.

I mus confess : I have some special gift. I very easily lose objects. I search for them and I don't see them. Ever noticed ? Even here ! A man once told me very seriously : "you don't find objects back because you truly have them disappeared". You wouldn't believe how often it happens to me. It's terrible. So, euh, if you have some spell to find objects back, it could also be of interest to me. Surely.

Gentlemen, keep in mind that there are many Fae who delight in hiding objects. They get a laugh out of it, moreso if it really pisses us off. How are your relations with your House Spirits? I have a friend who has this problem in a big way- she and her partner "lose" things up to and including things as large as motorcycles (yes, they're DykesOnBykes). I have no idea how to stop this, but they say that if they chuckle over it and move on to doing something else, they soon "find" the item in question...

Personally I pretty much never loose track of things, though my roomate and others seem to be plagued with this. I'm always asked to help out in finding things, and I'm pretty much always able to find them unless they are literally not in that physical space.

My mother always kept a cinnimon broom on the wall by the front door, this is apparently to discourage miscevious fae form playing tricks in your space.

Mom always use to call for the objects back, sort of an energetic projection while saying something like "Alright, Not funny, I need this item back now". If you don't need it immediately then it can usually turn up just after you've distracted yourself doing other things, and stopped being concerned about it.

If you do truly need it, pendulums and dowsing rods can help direct you. Try drawing the layout of the walls/rooms in your house, and use the pendulum to narrow down your search to certain areas (how you personally work with your pendulum or dowsing rods is up to you). If you spend a lot of time on your deck or in the yard include these spaces in the map. If the object could be somewhere outside the home, but you are not sure which location, draw a few circles on the paper and write the location names in them, then see which ones you get the strongest reaction to.

You could combine this with calling on the 'finder of lost things' satyr mentioned... Bless-ed be.

Thanks fellaz! All great suggestions. I really like the "finder of the lost" idea alot. I'll try that and the meditation for sure. For some reason I don't have much luck with pendulums/dowsing rods for this type of thing. I'm not sure why.

I am not much good at "pendulum". But, your Mom's ideas seem interesting, Decrypted night. And the "finder of the lost", yes, why not ? Concerning the house-spirits, well, I know there is one. He even warned me during a meditation that there were problems in that corner of the house, etc... And it was true. I know he likes "orange-juice" but I often forget to give him some.

Hmm, I once learned this spell from a friend of mine,

Elven people please be kinde, what once was lost shall now be found.
Return to me what I now seek.

I actually used it a few times and had quite some good results. Key thing of this spell is, just keep searching. For the spell itself you need to focus on that feeling you'll get, when you just know where the lost object is.

I FOUND THEM! I FOUND THEM! yay!

I decided to go back and try an old Catholic practice. "St Anthony! St Anthony, please come around! My [earbuds] are lost and need to be found."

Sometimes I forget that prayer is magic too!

Did you even try the suggestions we posted? I mean this looks bad for pagans otherwise... lol

Yeah everyone in the judeo-christian branch often fail to ralize that all of their tradition and prayers, are still ritual and magic. Both are just a means by which to direct thought and energy, and if one system of doing things dosn't work for you, just try another. That prayer even adhears to the 'and it be spake in rhyme' insisted upon by most wiccan traditions.

It's ironic that the Catholic Church (which I have no real 'beef' with) preaches against magic, when every bit of the Mass is ceremonial and ritualistic! Prayer..spell...tomaytoh...tomahtoh.

I did try the suggestions posted, but they didn't quite do the trick for me. In defense of classical paganism though, I am more accustomed to working with prayer than I am with visualization and meditation and I have NO experience with pendulums/dowsing. (I spent the vast majority of my life in the Church before coming to paganism.) I have used magic to call lost items back to me before, but this time it didn't work. Oh well.

Its all good though, I enjoy revisiting the saints sometimes!

just remember that once upon a time, and now even, St Anthony was used in place of Ellegua - the Orisha of the crossroads. When the African and Yoruban religions were being forced out by slave owners, those slave found other ways to pray to the Gods that they knew. I just know St Anthony as Papa Legba/Ellegua/Exu. Many hoodoo and rootwork traditions still use St Anthony is petitions and spell work.

I have this weird knack of finding things that my husband loses. pretty good average actually. If I have seen it in the house, and felt him touch it I can find it most of the time. If I have no clear picture, then forget about it.

A friend suggested this technique: Stand still, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Imagine a bright golden cord stretching out from your solar plexus and going right to the place that the "hidden" object is. Don't "think" too much and just follow the cord. This has worked for me a couple of times, and for a good friend of mine better each time he does it. Might work for you too.

of course you have at this point already found the earbuds - but we always seem to misplace something! Try this next time and see if it works.

if not - if St Anthony helps - works for me!

My Italian friends and family always say,

"Tony, Tony find for me, the _____ which I cannot see."
Great St. Anthony Prayer.

I usually deep breathe, meditate, find my calm place and pray to Esu with a cigar and some rum to help me find it if it is very important. If it is trivial, like the TV remote, then I suck it up that the universe wants me to be doing more substantial work and let go that I lost it for a while.

We just bride St. Anthony with moula here in Ireland! Most shops have collection jars and some are for St. Anthony so thats what people do. Guess it's part and parcel of that need to offer something up for the sake of finding.
