Sing of Hephaestus famed for inventions.
With bright-eyed Athene he taught men glorious crafts throughout the world,
Men who before used to dwell caves in the mountains like wild beasts.
But now that they have learned crafts through Hephaestus the famed worker,
Easily they live a peaceful life in their own houses the whole year round.
Be gracious Hephaestus, and grant me success and prosperity!

I'm afraid I next to nothing about their material so can't really comment. I believe forum land has been harsh to them though and many sources scathing in their reviews... I think Rev Don from MagickTV did a blog or two on their material. Could be confusing groups.
Might I inquire as to what you'd be looking to gain from the course? |

Well then I'd just keep an open mind and see who else has some thoughts and ideas on the group. I mean if a specific course is for you chances are you'll know because you'll be "kicked" into it! lol |

I've gotten plenty of grief for taking Witchschool courses. I don't really give a rat's ass. Some of their classes are wrong, some are excessively Fluffybunny, but some are excellent. And the price is right for me! So pick and choose, check sources, and enjoy! |

Good Courses: Ancient Etruscan History - good but brief overview Intro to Magickal Grimoires Intro to the Healing Arts - very decent intro class - I wish every healer, from MD to root man followed these ethics Air and Fire of Gardening Tarot 101 - great for me, who knows little of the Cards Advanced Symbolism and Manifestation - just started this one, Abhainn I think you and DN might like it... Thanks for the input Bugs... I can only imagine how annoyed the fae get, with alll the uber-fluffy folk calling on them... Being a nice good person is all well and good. It's quite a different thing to go through life giving everyone around you a rainbow enema... |

It all depends on who's administering the enema, though, innit? ;-) But yeah, from the little I know of the Fae, you don't wanna invite them to play. |

Not unless you have a twisted sense of humor... Can take a joke at your expense... Have spent some time building up a good rapport with them, so at least you know they are not going to ruin you completely... And have lots of insurance...
Then and only then is it generally safe to try wipping open a large gate into the middle of the fairy court... Without invitatation might I add.
Now on this subject I have to note, my mother taught me better. However, dabblers will do the darndest things. And sometimes you can't help but crack up laughing when they tell you what they did, and how their toaster exploaded the next day (or any other appliance sometimes the furnace, hot water tank etc..). |

I think if I was choosing between these folks and the Correlian Witchschool I would chose the second. Sacred Mists is offering long-distance Reiki attunements and classwork, I really don't quite approve of that in general, not to say they don't work, just that I think there are better ways to get that training. Makes me uncomfortable in general. Don't know enough about the leaders to have a general feeling for the potential of the class work or teachers. Some of the main class work for Witch School is available as books from Llewellen - I have the 1st and 2nd degree books, bought out of curiosity. the material is sound, very basic. They also have a rather extensive YouTube library of material to go through for general "look and feel." I don't personally like Don Lewis Corell, the head of Witch School, but i do approve of his mission. also look into the Grey School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Oberon Zell Ravenheart. This guy is as close to a walking in the real world wizard as i have ever seen and i love him for it. He is local and I see him at many events, he is a really a very sweet and lovely man. his school is aimed at a bit of a younger market, but does have some good stuff and is meant to take years of study to complete for higher and higher "degrees" from the school.

Oh okay I thought Oberon Zell-Ravenheart had moved on from greyschool.com seems not! Excellent news as one of the online schools I always admired their commitment.
Question for persons: do you think that we might tend to judge correspondence courses too harshly? What I mean is that most training programmes are designed to get the student part-taking in the course to think and add to it thus illustrating that they have read and understood the material. Therefore what tends to be released to the public may be part of what the courses are offering? If so then wouldn't the flip side be that the course relies on reliable and knowledgeable teacher for the module. |

I will check out the corrilian stuff... I am actully quite fond of OZ-R's work I have a few of his books the "Companion for the apprentice wizard", "Grimoire for the apprentice wizard", "Creating circles and cerimonies" and "Dragonlore" (don't think it's by OZ-R off hand but it is released through the grey school). Though I'm sad to say I was a bit let down by the dragonlore one... Then I also dislike what DJ Conway did too.
If you want good dragon lore, go ask them yourself. They love anyone with I highly creative mind, as I spent most of my youth working with them (yes my mother let me go trompsing all over the place, I never got grounded when I was bad, only magically bond in my body), and still associate with dragons of all the elemens form time to time (and sub/quasi/para-elements, the outer astral groups tend to break themselves down into about 12 elements with light and shadow as one inseperable element). Though I find them not so helpful with standard ritual spell work, as they lack concern for the activities of material life. But they are very helpful with atifice and talismans, and they enjoy the workings of any mind actively engaged in creative arts. Which natually led me to specialize in such things, and continue honing those skilles with hepeastus and other forge/craftwork deities.
But that's enough rambling on that... I generally like OZ-R, as I fondly recall from elementry school when some teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I gerw up. I told her "It dosn't really matter becausewhen I get old I what to walk around town like an old wize wizard, in a bathrobe and funny hat and cast spells on people"... LOL ahhh yes that was about grade 3, they had my mother called and she came to the school and when they told her what I said (expecting her to e shocked) all she said was "yes, so what? if there's anyone who would do it it's probably him"... LOL yea we'll see... If I start to suspect I'm going senile, I'll consider it as an appropriate career change. |

I love OZ-R (and hope he is well) and have read his Apprentice's book among other things. DJ Conway tho' I think little of, as her research is very suspect. I dunno, DN, Witchschool is not for everyone, most of their classes are very basic stuff, but I have some love for the Correllian tradition. They are very inclusive and understand that we are far more powerful together than bickering and seperate. I might just go thru with finishing all 3 degree studies. We shall see what we shall see. |

I consulted the all-knowing Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberon_Zell-Ravenheart
I was actually quite surprised at the amount of info they have there on both Oberon and the Grey School! |

I saw Oberon at Pantheacon back in February, but since i have never had a one-on-one conversation with him i did not feel it was the right place to go up and ask him how his health was doing. It was a bit odd to see him in "everyday" clothing and not the robes and all, just an average California dude getting up in years. he seems to be pretty active on his Facebook page, so i have to think he is doing much better. Issac Bonewits on the other hand is not doing so well. That is why the "Real School of Magic" folded and students were redirected to the Grey School. |
