Aryan Futurism Blog on Aryan MANNERBUND which discusses the idea of MANNERBUND or fraternities which practiced (culturally and spiritually) forms of homosexuality. Just thought I'd link to it here for people's delectations.

Personally, I'm rather iffy about the references to Indo-European sources for "Celtic" myths pertaining to Ireland. Ireland was never a Celtic island and if there was a MANNERBUND in the course of Irish history then this would be an Irish MANNERBUND or possibly reflects unique development in the culture like at other points in world history.

I guess you refer to this link ?

http://aryanfuturism.blogspot.com/2006/03/mannerbund-and-homosexuality.html

Is "mannerbund" a term derived from German ? "manner-bund" : "Bound to men" ?

Do you also mean that irish are not celts but gaels, instead ?

Hey Faune,

Yes thats the link "Aryan Mannerbund" in the first post is a link. If you hover over it a line should appear underneath it.

In German, Männerbünde refers to secret societies or fraternities, so yes "bound to men" would be a good etymology. However, I can't escape the feeling that the term Mannerbund as used in the article refers to some sociological descriptor moreover than a secret society. I vaguely recall mention of the Mannerbund in Cultural Theory and Sociology classes?! :S

Neither, Ireland's culture has always been syncretic because of trade. Being an island we could never fully support ourselves alone and trade is necessary and because trade is important culture travels via language. Gaels come from modern-day Northern Spain and France and Celts refers to a linguistic group of peoples rather than a specific culture.

I greatly beg to differ on that Ab... Every culture in Europe and around the Mediterranean region was reliant on trade to survive, and there are many unique aspects of the Irish pre-christian culture that make them stand out as a recognizable cultural group. So no I can not accept such an explanation.
Sing of Hephaestus famed for inventions. With bright-eyed Athene he taught men glorious crafts throughout the world, Men who before used to dwell caves in the mountains like wild beasts. But now that they have learned crafts through Hephaestus the famed worker, Easily they live a peaceful life in their own houses the whole year round. Be gracious Hephaestus, and grant me success and prosperity!

I don't understand. You comment on mainland Europe and the Mediterranean but I made no reference whatsoever to them? Ireland's culture predates that of what is commonly referred to as "Celtic" and so really can't be regarded as a "Celtic culture". Ireland traded with what is commonly called Celtic cultural groups as can be seen in Halstatt and Lá Tené artwork found here. Initially scholars supposed the presence of these artistic designs supported the theory of a mass exodus of "Celtic Cultures" to Ireland and thus Ireland's Celtic Culture essentially usurped what ever existed beforehand but recent explorations of the artwork undermine's this assumption.

Short and long of the story is that I'm not Celtic I'm Irish.

Well see if I'm correct and MANNERBUND in this context is a sociological reference then it needn't be exclusively a cultural one. Societies like Masonry and magical orders form along the same vein and even neopaganism to a degree.
